Artist talk (28 October 2016): Mouselephant

Vincenzo Fagnani and Tana Santos, aka Mouselephant, will present their work at the Y Residency and talk about their project “The Sea After Crisis: Reality is amorphous. Ethics is graphics”.

The Sea After Crisis is a project about the dynamics of moral structures and the role of graphics in society. It is a long trip across etymology and symbology narrated through visual paradoxes, poster campaigns and installations realised in three emblematic cities: Detroit (United States), Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Athens (Greece).

We invite you to an open artist talk on our rooftop, where Christiane Peschek will present a selection of her latest work.

Christiane Peschek participates with her work “You disappear in complete silence” in the group show “Temporarily Lost” (Beton 7), part of the APhF:2016 satellite program.

Christiane’s stay in Athens is part of a bilateral artist exchange project between Austria and Greece curated by Antonia Rahofer and hosted by Y – Artist Residency – Athens. With friendly support of the Austrian Embassy Athens.

Open Studio on the Roof (25 May 2016):Laura Ruiz – Nora Aurrekoetxea and Antoine Danis

Y’s resident artists, Laura Ruiz, Nora Aurrekoetxea and Antoine Danis will be hosting an Open Studio @ the roof of the Y Residency.

Nora Aurrekoetxea and Laura Ruiz form a research and creation team that develops projects related to the construction of identity, territoriality and historical memory as artistic values.
Their methodology uses investigation and the subsequent creation from the reading of history, traces, using contemporary discourses. The multidisciplinary projects, using from video art and photography to sculptural installations and collaborative processes, are articulated as subjective experiences that act as generants of reflection and critical thinking.

Antoine Danis is a documentary film maker. He is currently working between Greece and France on his project “Athènes Rhapsodie”.

There will be a projection of two films by Antoine Danis (Traversees et Nierika) and an exhibition of the current project of Laura Ruiz et Nora Aurrekoetxea

Artist talk (16 June 2015): I. Rozovsky & M. Steinmetz

Photographers Mark Steinmetz and Irina Rozovsky will introduce themselves and discuss contemporary documentary photography.

Mark Steinmetz received his MFA from Yale University in 1986. He has been published in Aperture, Blind Spot, and DoubleTake magazines and is a Guggenheim fellow. Steinmetz’ work is in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, and The Los Angeles County Museum of Art. His publications include South Central 2007, South East 2008, Greater Atlanta 2009.

Irina Rozovsky (born in Moscow, raised in the US), makes photographs of people and places, transforming external landscapes into interior states. Her work has been published, exhibited, and awarded internationally. She is an assistant professor of photography at Massachusetts College of Art and currently lives in Boston.
